Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is one of the most sacred plants in India and is considered a goddess or queen of the herbs, for its restorative and sacred properties. It has been used for thousands of years to support healthy responses to stress, provide natural detoxification, and restore balance and harmony to the whole system.

Benefits of Tulsi

Modern research classifies Tulsi as an adaptogen. Adaptogens support the body's healthy reactions to stress. Adaptogenic herbs are often referred to by herbalists as "restorative" herbs or "qi tonic" herbs. They help the body adapt to environmental, physical and emotional stressors, support normal functions and restore balance.

You can throw some leaves in with your steamed greens or stir fry, and this is great in thai style curries. However my favourite way to use Tulsi is straight up a tea! Hot or cold.

Iced Tulsi Tea

Throw a few handfulls of either fresh or dried tulsi into a teapot, or mason jar. Flower, stem, leaf.. the whole thing. Cover with boiling water and let steep for up to 3 hours! Pour off the liquid into a jug filled with ice. Delicious! Thats it :) Oh you could add a bit of honey while its still hot if you like, but the Tulsi has a natural kind of sweetness to it.

Hot tea

Add the tulsi to your mug or teapot. Pour in the hot water and steep for at least 5 minutes. Drink warm and feel the medicinal properties of the plant gently soothing your heart and nervous system :).
